DOMINEE SE KIND
BY FRANCOIS VAN COKE
INTENDED AUDIENCE
Francois van Coke's animated music video is intended for South African millennials who speak Afrikaans and enjoy Francois van Coke's punk-rock style.
THE PROBLEM
In the South African music industry, local artists have noticed that their audiences engage less with music videos than in the past. Music videos play an important role in increasing fan interaction, enhancing engagement, and providing a creative way to visualize a song’s meaning. Without captivating visuals, artists risk losing a key channel for connecting with their fans.
THE BRIEF
The brief was to create an animated multimedia music video for Francois van Coke’s song DSK. The video needed to be visually striking while complementing van Coke’s unique style and sound. It had to blend creativity with storytelling, capturing the mood of the song and translating its themes into engaging visuals. The animation was intended to evoke emotional connections and provide viewers with a memorable, immersive experience that aligns with the artist’s vision.
THE SOLUTION
DSK is a song about growing up and reconciling the past with the present. The video visually explores this theme by drawing on nostalgia, reflecting the 1980s childhoods that many South Africans remember. Through animated sequences inspired by these memories, the video encourages the audience to connect not only with the lyrics but also with the emotions and experiences the visuals evoke, creating a richer, more meaningful engagement with the song.
